#283 I Have a Dream2004, oil on canvas, 28" x 24" I also had a dream and it was to leave home and start my independent life. The year was 1968 and I had just returned from Europe. My younger sister seemed so young when she was married that February. It was such a tumultuous year. Martin Luther King gave his now famous speech that seemed to prophesize the future, when he said, I may not get there with you. This couple is going into an unknown future, the dark of the car, the unknown. This painting is not an illustration of reality but rather a shorthand creation of the sensation of the beginning of something. I am the shadow in the painting. |
